Matthew Jordan Smith approached ICLA to produce his latest book about Aretha Franklin. The first time I met Matthew was in 2018, the year of Aretha’s passing. Little did we know that it would take another six years of hard work before  Aretha Cool – The Intimate Portraits would come to fruition.

I am proud to have been part of this remarkable project and to have had the opportunity to design such a culturally significant volume. It is one of my favorite works throughout my career. I am humbled by the incredible reception and reviews this book has garnered.

A Regular Edition book was produced alongside a Limited Edition. The Limited Edition consists of 100 signed and numbered copies of Aretha Cool. It includes a custom-designed clamshell enclosure, a signed and numbered 8×10 fine art print, which offers a unique connection for collectors, and a distinctive foldout print.

Additionally, the Limited Edition is accompanied by a custom-made USB drive that contains an audio narrative by the author, offering insights into the shared experiences between Aretha Franklin and her esteemed photographer, Matthew Jordan Smith. Aretha Cool – The Intimate Portraits melds soul-stirring photography with the enduring legacy of Aretha’s influence.
